Bhavan’s Public School observed the ‘International Day of Democracy’ to raise awareness about democracy. A special assembly was conducted by the students to mark the day. A quiz competition conducted by the students brought out the enthusiasm among the students. The power point presentation highlighted the importance of democracy, what it involves, the challenges it faces as well as the opportunities it offers, and the central responsibility that all parliaments have as the key institution of democracy. Principal, Mr. M.P. Philip reminded the students that international day of democracy is an opportunity to urge all governments to respect their citizens’ right to active, substantive and meaningful participation in democracy. Vice Principal Mr.Dharmaraj Kumar stated that Democracy is a government “of the people, for the people and by the people”. Headmistress, Shailaja Krishnakumar spoke about the developments and recent trends in modern day democracy. Headmistress, Mrs. Asha Shiju, in her message stated that the day is a moment to respect our right to meaningful participation in democracy and it is the product of strong, active and vocal civil society.
